The article is devoted to the analysis of translation transformations in musical compositions. Studies field and opera compositions were considered, difficulties that an interpreter may face identified. Using example N. Tate’s libretto for “Dido Aeneas”, texts recitative Dido’s aria analyzed, as well ways its into Russian.
